2022 Youth Catch-and-Release Contest Results!

Youth can enter the contest if they are under age 18 with a family member in TLA. Just catch, measure, photograph, and release a fish from Turtle Lake or Hatch Lake between opening weekend and Labor Day (May 14th through September 5th).

Participants can enter in four categories this year:

  1. Bass

  2. Walleye

  3. Sunfish and crappie

  4. Oddball fish

Anglers may enter multiple categories and multiple fish in a single category. All entrants will receive great fishing-related goodies, and the winner in each category will get a Catch and Release Champion prize. Prizes will be mailed to the champions shortly after Labor Day.

Oddball fish include any fish species that is not included in the other three categories—bowfin, rock bass, whitefish, sucker, bullhead, perch, tullibee, northern pike, etc. The winner of the oddball fish category will be judged by the contest coordinator based on the size of the fish for that particular species.

Please be sure to include Turtle Lake/Hatch Lake in the background of the picture, minimize the time the fish is out of the water, and release the fish by gently placing it in the water and holding it upright until it swims away.

Please don’t lay the fish on the ground, put the fish on a stringer, or unnecessarily stress the fish before you release it.
