Adopt-a-Highway

Each spring, the TLA cleans both sides of the highway from the Pine Cone in Marcell to mile marker 31 by the Timberwolf Inn.  This requires a small crew of 12 – 14, so it shouldn't take very long.  Many hands make for quick work and more fun!

This year’s annual Highway 38 clean up will be Saturday, May 23, starting at 10 a.m. This usually takes about an hour. Volunteers are asked to meet at the far end of the Timberwolf parking lot to obtain vests, trash bags, and a road section assignment. Bug repellent, gloves, and hats are recommended. Trash grab sticks are also available. Please contact John Hanson at jkhpolish2@gmail.com or 218-355-1040 if you can participate.

General Information

  • Each person will receive a highly fashionable bright yellow reflective safety vest and a matching trash bag.

  • Please bring your own gloves, bottled water, sunscreen, bug/tick repellent, and pick-up stick or hand gripper.

  • We will only pick up cans, bottles, paper, and plastic (no deer carcasses, fallen trees, or rusty truck bodies).

  • The clean-up should be fun and, if we get around 12 pickers or so, it shouldn't take very long.

  • We will be picking up trash from mile marker 31 south to the Pine Cone (on both sides of the highway). We will divide up into three groups:
Group #1 - Mile marker 31 to Matt Zimmer Road
Group #2 - Matt Zimmer Road to Evergreen Point Road
Group #3 - Evergreen Point Road to the Pine Cone

  • For safety reasons and due to the narrowness of highway shoulders, we request that children under the age of 12 not participate.
