Lake Level

Paul Myers, Lake Level Committee

We hope you are enjoying your summer on the lake. If you have spent any time on Turtle Lake since the late June, early July monsoons, you may have noticed the big change in the weather! Mostly dry and warm is the best way to describe it.

The lake level reading as of August 5, 2019 was 1351.4 ft. which is in the middle of the range. If you have driven over the Turtle River bridge on Highway 286 recently, you may have noticed that the river looks swampy due to the lack of flowing water. This is mostly due to recent dry weather and the constant back and forth we are having with the beaver at dam #1, which is closest to the lake. The beaver block, we unblock, and we have managed to stay ahead of them. However, this is where it starts to get tricky if it stays really dry.

On Wednesday, August 7th, we made a trip to the dams. The only dam that was impeding the flow of water from the lake was dam #1 as I mentioned above. We made the decision to shave enough off that dam to let the water flow freely from the lake but also left enough of a buffer so that if it remains dry the flow should diminish as the lake level drops. In the meantime, we will keep monitoring the situation. As always, we welcome your comments!
